Colores Absentes (Latin for absent colours) is a personal project rooted in experiment. Its starting point was „Insomnia”, a series of night photographs in which, for many years, I have been documenting the urban landscape marked by a human - and often destructive - presence. My intention was not to faithfully recreate those landscapes, but to bring what fascinates me in night photography – the street lights, the textures, the compositions - into the studio.
In this project I use construction waste and recycled materials - seemingly worthless objects that, placed in a different context and treated with the right means of expression, take on a new form. Colour, which in my case resists easy definitions, became the axis of this work. The impulse behind the search was both its presence and its shift - its lack of unambiguity. By surrendering to the experiment, I explore to what extent my personal aesthetic preferences and my way of perceiving urban space shape the abstract works I create. Is there only one version of what we see? Colores Absentes is reality seen from a perspective often regarded as wrong. The project is a reflection on the idea that what we consider imperfect or redundant may, in a different context, reveal its less obvious potential.
